– We provide educational programs to facilitate and encourage players to enjoy the sport.
– We regularly survey our membership and support committees that that channel ideas and refine competitive formats.
– We support player efforts and freestyle growth around the world by sponsoring player-led initiatives.
– We act as a collective bargaining force that protects and promotes the interests of freestyle disc players worldwide.
Organizing! Three major factors prompted the organization’s formation in 1978. First, it was evident that player input was having minimal impact on the evolution of freestyle in the major tournaments at that time. Secondly, there was a growing realization that freestylers were becoming a group of specialists, playing a separate sport. Being a separate sport, it was apparent that freestyle had its own challenges and opportunities. Finally, it was recognized that the freestyle community with its immense talent was the most legitimate body to turn to for direction in the evolution of freestyle.
Communication. Initially, the FPA’s principal artery of communication was the FPA Forum, a publication that provided news pertinent to freestyle disc play. Now, we stay connected through FPA’s facebook page and Freestyle Frisbee Players facebook group. We also use Jammers on the net Yahoo group, a listserve managed by one of our members that allows players to initiate discussions, suggest changes, promote events, and vote on administrative policies.
Membership and Sponsorship. The FPA is funded through player-based membership and product sponsorship. We encourage all freestylers to support the efforts of the organization by keeping memberships current and renewing annually. Sponsorship and partnership opportunities are also welcomed by the FPA!
