how did HEIN come to be?

(1/2) > >>

Alexvir:
Can anyone explain where the word HEIN came from? We all know what it means, but is it a freestyle word only, or do other sports-people use it? Does it have a history of some sorts?

Also, how is it read? (Hey-n or Hai-n)?

Rolland B. Rush:
The same way "Spaunch" game into our lingo. I sent an email to thehein@aol.com to ask Dave Zeff, a Santa Barbara jammer who's license plate is also "thehein."  I think it's specific to freestyle and not other sports that I know of.  Heinous ("outrageously wicked" from the dictionary), shortened to hein, is used in a similar manner as when "bad" means "good."  Hopefully we get more input, but it was a mid-80s Joey / Santa Barbara era thing.

Rolland B. Rush:
For the use of the word in context, "Joey's tipping sequence is hein!"

SkippyJammer:
Hein is short for Heinous. It is a Joeyism. It was initially used in the same context of calling something "bad" when you really meant good like: "He's a bad mutha". So in this context It's even more bad than bad, it's Heinous. Hope that makes sense.

Thehein:
A Long long time ago in a quaint little beachside village named St. Barb Lived a boy named Chipper Bro Bell.  Chipper had a strange but curious roomate named Louie who had an odd way with words and in order to creatively state the concept of absolute awesomeness Louie shortened the word heinous to the word we know of as Hein, thus the word Hein was born!

The great Chipper Bro spread the word far and wide from one end of Palm Park to the other, and so the local jammer donned the hein as their as their way of life and spread the word throughout their tiny little subculture of Freestyle Flying Disc Flingers.

The word is spelled hein and as The great and powerful Skippy stated it's a whole lot better than bad...
For example: (As bad is used to mean good) That tip combo was Bad.
(As Hein is used to mean well you know)  Did you see that totally hein 4 and a half upside down against the spin skidding twisto gitosis that schiller just pulled off.  Or maybe as simple as.... Chipper Bro you're the Hein! I personally use it in this context often.
Hey, by the way, quit playin with yer computer and get out and Jam!!!!!
Ciao for now,
David Zeff
