Cross training - which one to choose?
(1/1)
Alexvir:
What kind of activity is good as a crosstrainer for freestyle? I got the idea from Arthur Coddington's and Lui Tasini's book "this is freestyle" that yoga is a good option. Capoeira and gymnastics would probably be ok too. Im thinking about trying out some yoga after summer...
Anyone have experience or ideas with this kind of thing?
Fabio:
I think yoga is a good option. I've never done it, but I've seen freestylers practicing it and getting good results in balance, flexibility, focusing.
Right now I think that every freestyler should know well HOW TO STRETCH very well. I'm doing some cross training on my own, some handstanding exercise (it works very well for balance, confidence on yourself and your movements, your back will grow in power and flexibility), but that's because I'd like to add some handstanding catches to my game. It's about to you for your cross training, I think capoeira, or other martial arts can help a lot (I did Karate when I was young and helped me out on flexibility and balancing); I think some other stuff like juggling or hacky sack (footbag) would help a lot for several reasons (coordination, leg power).
Doing body training is for sure a good idea, you would prevent your body to get injured and alternating with freestyle you could work on something when you can't jam outdoors.
