2016 US OPEN Flying Disc Championships
Description
The US Open, aka the Skippy Jammer Retirement Party, was outstanding. From typically heinous weather and perfect fields, free meals most nights and great schwag the event was awesome. The mix of overallers and freestylers (specialists) was embraced by all and made for new relationships and cementing old ones.
A great sense of history permeated the event.
Adding to the history were the stunning freestyle results. Coming in third and making the podium were Lori Daniels and Amy Schiller – the first time an all women team finished on the podium. In second were Larry Imperiale and Bill Wright, going dropless for the first time in a finals. The winning team was Czech Power! Pavel Baranyk and Jakub Koštel became the first European winners of the US Open – congratulations guys!
It was nice to see Skippy ride off in to the sunset on such a high note. Bill Wright presented Skippy with a “retired” gitis beach jammer plaque right after freestyle finals. The subsequent speech made everyone cry as he reflected on his career and his love of the sport and all of us.
Thank you Skippy and the Jammer family from the Jammer family!!
